Making the right choice

Is New 2WAY Worth the Upgrade?

New 2WAY may be worth considering if you prefer a refined fabric finish and a particular smooth-touch experience. But the name alone doesn't guarantee better stretch, thickness, or print quality. Compare the actual specifications and printed samples before deciding.

Choose New 2WAY If...You prefer its actual surface feel and finish, and the verified differences justify the additional cost for you.

Choose 2WAY Tricot If...You want a smooth, stretchy dakimakura fabric without paying extra for features you may not need.

How to Care for Your Dakimakura Fabric

A little care can help maintain the appearance and feel of your pillow cover.

Placing a printed dakimakura cover into a washing machine

Check Your Care Label First

Always follow the care instructions provided with your specific fabric and printed cover.

Cold Water

Use cool water, ideally no warmer than 30°C.

Gentle Washing

Hand wash whenever possible to reduce friction.

Mild Detergent

Use a gentle, bleach-free liquid detergent.

Shade Dry

Air dry away from direct sunlight and heat.

Inside Out

Turn the printed cover inside out before washing.

No Harsh Treatment

Avoid bleach, strong scrubbing, twisting and hot dryers.

Fabric-Specific Reminders

New 2WAY

Pay attention to snagging on the knit, and to how the cover holds its shape after stretching.

2WAY Tricot

Avoid unnecessary hard wringing, friction, and pulling.

Plush

Watch friction, pressure marks, and the condition of the short pile.

Peach Skin

Take care with friction on the lightly brushed surface, and protect the printed areas.

Frequently asked questions

Dakimakura Fabric Questions, Answered.

Everything you need to know about fabric texture, stretch, artwork printing, and care before choosing your dakimakura.

Use our fabric guide to find the right option for your preferences.

Find Your Fabric

What is the best fabric for a dakimakura?

There is no single best fabric. New 2WAY is the refined smooth option, 2WAY Tricot is the smooth everyday knit, Plush is the short-pile cozy surface, and Peach Skin is the lightly brushed practical surface.

Choose the feel you want, then confirm that your pillow style offers it. Use the fabric finder to narrow the choice.

What is 2WAY Tricot fabric?

2WAY Tricot is a stretch-knit fabric commonly used for dakimakura covers. It is valued for its flexible, smooth surface and its ability to conform to a pillow insert.

On the custom page this option is listed as 2WAY. It is a separate choice from New 2WAY.

What is the difference between New 2WAY and 2WAY?

Both are smooth, stretchy cover fabrics. This guide does not call New 2WAY thicker, cooler, or more elastic, because those differences have not been confirmed with supplier measurements.

Compare the photos and the open details in New 2WAY vs. 2WAY Tricot, then choose the surface you prefer.

Is 2WAY better than Peach Skin?

Neither one is simply better. 2WAY Tricot is a smooth knit with stretch. Peach Skin is a lightly brushed surface with limited stretch.

Pick the texture you want to live with. This page does not rank them by a lab score.

Does fabric affect anime artwork print quality?

The artwork file stays the same. The surface changes how linework, gradients, and color look after printing.

Smoother fabrics usually present fine lines more cleanly. A piled or brushed surface can soften that detail. Compare the same artwork on each fabric.

Does Plush fabric make printed details look softer?

Yes. The short pile gives the print a warmer, gentler look, and very fine lines can appear less sharp than they do on a smooth fabric.

That is the texture, not a failed file. See the Plush sample in the print comparison.

Which fabric is best for a split-leg body pillow?

The custom split-leg pillow currently lists 2WAY, which is 2WAY Tricot. New 2WAY, Plush, and Peach Skin are not listed for that construction.

Start with the pillow style, then use the fabric shown for it. Check the custom options before you prepare the artwork.

Can I use the same artwork on all four fabrics?

Yes, when the pillow style offers those fabrics. The same file can be printed on each one, and the surface will change the result.

Not every style lists all four. Look at the print samples before you decide.

View All 12 QuestionsShow Fewer Questions

Do all pillow styles offer all four fabrics?

No. Fabric options follow the pillow style. The double-layer custom pillow lists Peach Skin, Plush, 2WAY, and New 2WAY. Split-leg, full-body, and half-body custom options currently list 2WAY. The 3D latex style lists 2WAY and New 2WAY.

Check the style before you design around a fabric it does not offer. Start from the pillow style.

How do I care for a printed cover?

Follow the care label on that cover. Water temperature, machine cycle, ironing, and drying are not one shared program for all four fabrics.

The notes above cover cool water, gentle washing, a mild detergent, drying away from heat and sun, washing inside out, and avoiding bleach, hard scrubbing, twisting, and a hot dryer. Read the care notes.

Can I order a fabric sample?

A separate fabric swatch is not available to order from this page. Ask customer service if you need one before you buy.

You can still compare real printed samples in Same Artwork. Different Fabric.

Does the fabric choice include a pillow insert?

No. The fabric is the cover material. The insert is a separate choice, and it depends on the pillow style.

You may see No Insert, which is the cover only, a PP Cotton insert, or an inflatable insert. The 3D latex pillow uses its own latex core. Choosing a fabric does not add an insert by itself. Browse pillow accessories if you need a separate piece, and confirm the configuration before ordering.
